What exactly do I mean when I say these games are educational? Does that mean that they are like homework? Will you have to learn boring facts and memorize formulas? Not at all - these are games and they are designed to be fun. They are meant to challenge you and engage you and entertain you. When I use the word 'educational', I use it in the sense that these games will make you smarter, but they are hardly schoolwork.

You see, exercising your mind works just like exercising your body. When you run around playing tag, soccer or whatever outdoor activities you enjoy, you are actually doing your body a big favor by increasing your strength and endurance. Playing games (in moderation) has the the same affect on your mind - it makes you smarter and more skillful at solving problems. Playing word games will help your language skills, playing math games will make you better with numbers, and so on. So while you are laughing and having fun, your brain will grow ever-more capable.
